Many of us grew up in a time where people believed that eating healthy meant three square meals a day. However, we now know that it’s much healthier to have several smaller meals throughout the day. If you are trying to lose weight, this is an important key to effective weight loss that does not make you fell like you are depriving yourself.
Plan to have five to six small feedings a day, rather than large meals, spaced two and a half to three hours apart, and do not eat within an hour of going to bed.
Small feedings can consist of things ranging from small meals to snacks, such as:
- A small bowl of cereal
- A small salad of grilled chicken and mixed greens
- A banana, or piece of fruit
- A small smoothie or protein shake
- A bowl of popcorn sprayed lightly with olive oil
- A handful of almonds
- Celery sticks and small amount of peanut butter
- A small meal of grilled fish with brown rice and vegetables
Be creative, but keep it small. Additionally, If you trying to lose weight, calories still count. Don’t go overboard! Make sure you are not going over you daily calorie allowance.
